This past weekend, we were fortunate enough to be able to hold hygiene workshops at Human and Hope Association thanks to Journeys Within Our Community (JWOC). Two of our volunteers are JWOC graduates, and one volunteer is a current scholarship student, hence, we were able to hold the workshops with the support of JWOC using our existing talent, along with some JWOC scholarship students who also volunteered their time to help us.
The training session focused on basic hygiene practices such as hand-washing and teeth cleaning. Awareness was also raised about the dangers of using contaminated water as a cause of illness and disease, as well as how people can change their everyday routine to prevent getting sick.
Over 200 students participated in these workshops, which used engaging training materials and activities. A small hygiene pack containing a toothbrush, toothpaste and soap was provided to every excited student who attended the training so they could put their learning into practice straight away.
We would like to say a huge thank you to our ongoing supporters, Janet and Allen from Hawaii who financed the training, as well as donating three water filters and a new well. We also could not have done this without the dedication of the wonderful staff and volunteers at JWOC who are committed to creating sustainable change in Cambodia, as well as other countries in South East Asia.
