Sew Many Opportunities!

Saney

Did you know that more than 20% of Cambodians live below the poverty line? I and many of our staff came from very poor families and we are better today because we had education and training, and also support from Human and Hope Association. We want our villagers to also move out of poverty, so today we launched a crowdfunding campaign that you can help with!

We really need to raise $12,000 to help more people in our commune and to give them the opportunity to take our year-long sewing course. Then they can have better lives the same as our graduated sewing student, Chomrong.

Chomrong has three children and was only able to study until grade seven because her family was so poor. Then she worked as a builder and earned 88 cents a day. So sad! Then she got married and moved to Siem Reap. Her husband was also a builder and they did not earn enough money to feed their family with the nutritious food. Their children would fall sick a lot and then because they always had to go to hospital they would have to spend a lot of money and then they were even more poor. In 2014 we found Chomrong and asked her to study with us to learn sewing. We are so happy because she studied with us for a year, and learnt many many things about sewing, even how to make a beautiful dress for weddings! Chomrong also studied life skills and learnt about domestic violence, job skills and hygiene. She was more confident to stand up to her husband. We also took her son into our preschool program and he learnt Khmer, hygiene and good habits. Another son learnt English with us. Then Chomrong took a loan to buy a sewing machine through our microfinance program. She can now make clothes for her neighbours and make products for HHA at her home so she can also take care of her children. She has started to moving herself out of the poverty bracket and we know with her hard work one day she will not be poor anymore.
