Meet our Community: Heak

Heak at her home.

At Human and Hope Association, we believe that everyone, regardless of their gender, deserves an equal opportunity to succeed in life. Unfortunately, gender inequality remains a major issue in Cambodia, with many women facing discrimination and limited access to education and job opportunities.

One of the women who have benefited from our program is Heak. Before joining our program, she struggled in her relationship with her husband, who was jealous and constantly complained about financial issues. Heak was unhappy with her life and lacked the skills and job opportunities needed to support herself.

Fortunately, she decided to join our sewing program, where she learned valuable skills and became a more independent and self-assured woman. Through our program, Heak was able to secure a job at a sewing shop in town, where she earned a better income and gained valuable experience.

Sadly, the pandemic forced the sewing shop to close, leaving Heak without work. However, she did not let this setback discourage her. Instead, she used her sewing skills to work from home and create souvenir clothes, earning around $280 per month. She now lives happily with her family and is proud to be a skilled and self-sufficient woman.

Heak's story is just one example of the positive impact that Human and Hope Association is having on the lives of women in Cambodia. With your support, we can continue to provide education, training, and job opportunities to empower more women and promote gender equality in this important region.
