Project Update: Goodridge Foundation supports the Home Food Garden Project

Luy with her granddaughter.

The Goodridge Foundation recently funded another cohort of families to participate in HHA Cambodia's Home Food Garden Project, and the results are nothing short of remarkable. With the support of the foundation, we have been able to help families like Luy's make a difference in their communities and their own lives.

Luy, a 55-year-old mother of four, and her husband were struggling to make ends meet as they raised their granddaughter. With limited job opportunities in their hometown, they resorted to selling traditional medicine made from small trees they found in the forest, earning them just USD$0.75 a day.

Fortunately, the Chief of Luy's village informed HHA about her family's living situation, and she was able to join the Home Food Garden Project. After attending two days of training at HHA's community centre and receiving farming materials and seeds, Luy was able to grow her own vegetables and earn an income selling the excess produce in her village.

The results of the project have been incredible. 100% of participants are now growing vegetables for personal consumption, and 55% are earning an income through the sale of surplus vegetables. Furthermore, 30 neighbours were inspired by the success of these gardens and established their own. The benefits of the project extend beyond financial gain, with 100% of participants reporting a reduction in financial stress.

For Luy, the project has been life-changing. She has been able to reduce her expenses and increase her income, allowing her to attend important religious ceremonies and participate in her community. By reducing her debt with the income earned from selling vegetables, Luy can now focus on providing a better life for her family and giving back to her community.

The Goodridge Foundation's support has made all of this possible, and we are grateful for their commitment to making a difference in the lives of families like Luy's. With continued support, we can help even more families in need and create a brighter future for all.
