Meet our Community: Vanna

Vanna in sewing class.

At our sewing class, we often encounter students who struggle to keep up with the lessons. Vanna was one of them. However, she was determined to learn and improve her skills, especially since sewing was something she truly enjoyed.

After completing her sewing courses, Vanna was able to secure a job at a local sewing shop. She worked there for a few years until the pandemic hit and the shop closed down. With bills to pay and a family to support, Vanna applied to work at an ethical factory where she could earn a better income. However, due to safety concerns with travelling home at night, she was forced to stop working there.

Despite facing challenges, Vanna never gave up on her sewing skills. She worked hard and was able to secure a job sewing clothes for a souvenir shop. With this job, she can earn around $300 per month, which has made a huge difference in her life. Not only is she able to support her family, but she is also able to continue doing something she loves.

Vanna's story highlights the importance of supporting individuals who are passionate about their craft. Through programs that offer skill-building courses, we can help people like Vanna improve their skills and secure better job opportunities.
