Meet our Community: Sreyla

Sreyla in the study area at HHA.

Today, we want to introduce you to *Sreyla, a seven-year-old girl living in a small cottage in rural Siem Reap.

Sreyla's family faces financial difficulties, with her father's income as a builder being irregular and barely enough to make ends meet. But despite these challenges, Sreyla's parents enrolled her in our preschool program when she was five.

Thanks to our support, Sreyla and her sisters receive school supplies and ongoing outreach to ensure they can stay in school. Sreyla attends Khmer language classes, where her dedication to learning and the solid foundation she received in preschool have enabled her to comprehend her lessons quickly and earn consistently good grades.

Sreyla is also a regular visitor to our library, where she reads Khmer picture books and improves her language skills. Her hard work has paid off, as her Khmer knowledge has greatly improved, resulting in better performance at her public school.

Sreyla's Khmer teacher, Phan, speaks highly of her, describing her as a diligent and highly capable student who shows up for class and pays close attention. Sreyla even helps her classmates by explaining lessons, making Phan proud to watch her grow and learn.

At HHA, we believe that every child deserves access to quality education, regardless of their background or financial situation. With your support, we can continue to provide children like Sreyla with the tools they need to succeed and thrive. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of these children and their families.
