Meet our Community: Siv
Siv in class
Meet Siv, a 31-year-old resident of a rural village in Siem Reap. She has faced many challenges in life, including losing both of her parents at the age of 17. Siv had to drop out of school in grade 8 due to financial constraints and began working as a construction worker from a young age.
Siv is now married with two sons, one of whom is studying English with HHA. Although her husband works as a builder, their family struggles to make ends meet, and Siv works as a cleaner at ceremonies to earn extra income. However, this job is not steady, and she can only earn USD$2.50 a day when there are ceremonies in her community.
Despite the obstacles she has faced, Siv has always dreamed of acquiring a specific skill that would enable her to have a stable job as her children grow older. She enrolled in our sewing program to achieve this goal. After undergoing a family assessment, she met the program's requirements, but she had to wait for six months as the previous class had not yet finished.
Siv's first few months in the sewing class were challenging, as she had difficulty keeping up with the lessons. However, with the help of her dedicated teacher, her own commitment, and encouragement from her husband and children, Siv is now one of the top students in the class.
Siv's dream of having a stable job is within reach, but she needs our help to achieve it. By donating to HHA, you can support our efforts to provide vocational training to women like Siv. Your donation will go towards providing sewing machines, materials, and training for women in need, helping them to gain valuable skills and achieve financial independence.
With a stable job, Siv will be able to support her family and continue to provide her children with an education. Your donation can make a significant impact on the lives of women and families in Cambodia. Please consider making a contribution today and help us make a difference in the world.
