Pheap in class
Imagine being a 23-year-old with no access to education, forced to work odd jobs just to support your family. That's the reality for Pheap, a resident of a village near HHA. She had to stop her schooling after the fourth grade to help her family, and her work includes stints as a construction worker and assisting farmers with their rice fields.
Despite these challenges, Pheap got married at 19 to a widower with two children. She built a small cottage near her parents' home for her family to live in, but just three months after getting married, her husband passed away due to an illness. This tragic event left Pheap's family in dire financial straits as she was unable to work due to her young children's care.
But hope came in the form of our sewing classes. Pheap expressed her interest in joining the program during one of our staff's visits. After meeting our criteria, she was enrolled in the half-day afternoon classes. To support her children, Pheap also grows vegetables to sell in the morning. Her goal is to acquire a new skill she can use to earn a living and save money for her children's education. Pheap aspires to have a better home for herself and her children in the future.
